Resident Spotlight
Francine and Steve have been long time residents here at 1660. They first met in 1999, in a parking lot, and their love story continued from that day forward. While Steve moved into the building in 1999, Fran joined him in 2000. They tried to leave and even moved to Streeterville, but moved back after 2 years, and haven't left since 2019. Francine and Steve have loved Chicago and all it has to offer in the shows, the music, and plays. What stood out was when Steve was describing Francine to me, he said how much she loved caring for others, how she saw the world from a curious view, and every thing about Chicago excited her. She was humble and lived simply, but fully, and gave her all to the people around her. Her middle name, in Hebrew, means Little Bird with a Free Spirit. She has loved 1660 because she felt safe. The staff, the people, the neighbors. At Christmas, she loved giving gifts to the staff who she appreciated so much as they have all made her feel safe and like family. 6 months ago, Fran had fallen sick with a rare disease.... And unfortunately, the disease took over, and in the end took her life. It was unexpected. And her life was short. We are all very sad for this wonderful person that lived here. Steve shared his story, and how Francine was the love of his life. They met later in life, when she was 34 and he was 42, so never had kids, and shared their time in their love together. Steve and Francine share a beautiful love story that is baked in support and pure kindness and it was a gentle reminder of the reason why we have this community here at 1660. This month, I ask, if you can take a moment of silence, and a bow for Francine, as she has flown away from us. And in her spirit, to bask in the beauty life has to offer. If you happen to visit Carsons, or Emperors Choice in China town, have a cheers to her. And if you happen to see Steve around, lend a shoulder, ask if he needs anything.
