Aug 2026

August is here, and we are officially in the peak of summer!

Did you know that August is named after Roman Emperor Augustus? Augustus Ceasar wanted 31 days in the month, because he wanted the month to be as long as Julius Ceasar's July!

August also features the the Perseid meteor shower: Peaking mid-month from August 11 to 13, it offers up to 100 shooting stars per hour.

August is also the month of many International Independence days!

  • Switzerland (August 1): Swiss National Day marking the 1291 federal charter.
  • Jamaica & Bolivia (August 6): Commemorating independence and national history.
  • Pakistan (August 14): Independence Day celebrating freedom from British rule in 1947.
  • India, South Korea & Liechtenstein (August 15): Marking independence and national sovereignty.
  • Indonesia (August 17): Hari Kemerdekaan celebrating independence from the Netherlands

International and Cultural Observances

  • International Youth Day (August 12): United Nations day highlighting youth issues.
  • Feast of the Assumption (August 15): Major Christian religious holiday observed globally.
  • World Humanitarian Day (August 19): Honoring aid workers worldwide.
  • Women's Equality Day (August 26): Commemorating the 19th Amendment and women's voting rights in the U.S.

EMPLOYEE SPOTLIGHT OF THE MONTH!

David is our employee of the month. David has been here for 3 years. One of our freshest faces. He is from Puerto Rico and moved to Chicago in 2006. 20 years ago!!

When he is not working he likes spend time with his girls (ages 10 and 11) and play basketball.

Besides Puerto Rican food, he enjoys chicago pizza and always happy to get a recommendation for a pizza spot!

If you see David, ask him about a favorite Puerto Rican place that he recommends and in exchange, give your best pizza spot!
